APCO Government Relations: Project 43: Broadband Implications for the PSAP
Monday, August 15 | 10:30 – 11:00 a.m.

Presenters: Steve Proctor, P43 Chair; P43 Working Group Chairs; and Staff Liaisons

Technology is changing at an incredibly rapid pace, and we need to make sure our community stays ahead of the curve. Join us for an overview of Project 43 and to dialogue about how this major effort can best help the public safety communications profession prepare for the evolving broadband communications technologies that will have major operational and workforce impacts for PSAPs while, at the same time, improve support to emergency responders.

AT&T: Push-To-Talk over Cellular Networks
Monday, August 15 | 11:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Presenter: Joel Garner, Advanced Mobility Solutions Consultant

Push-To-Talk over Cellular (POC) adoption has grown significantly.  This is leading to more opportunities to improve interoperability, expand user base, and drive cost efficiencies for many non-mission critical users. Attendees can expect a better understanding of available non-mission critical communication technologies which can enhance public safety’s communication experience, when integration into their existing private land mobile radio system.

Harris: The Future of Public Safety Communications: Bridging LTE and LMR
Monday, August 15 | 12:45 - 2:00 p.m.

Presenters: Martin O’Malley, former Governor of Maryland and current board member, Rivada Networks; Dennis Martinez, Chief Technology Officer, Harris; Michelle Johnson, Director, LTE Center of Excellence, Harris

The promise of 4G LTE for public safety is compelling: robust mobile broadband for voice, video and data communications enabling new capabilities such as situational awareness, mapping, and augmented reality to name only a few. Deciding how to incorporate LTE technology into an LMR system requires planning, but convergence of LMR and LTE is here and it works. Through case studies and practical experiences, attendees will understand how to take advantage of LTE today while readying their environments for the coming shift to public safety broadband.

Motorola Solutions: Global Standards for Next Generation Citizen to Authority Communications
Monday, August 15 | 2:15 - 3:30 p.m.

Presenter: Bill Mertka, Sr. Product Planning Consultant - Next Generation Public Safety Technologies

Next Generation citizen to authority communications, is not just about NG9-1-1 anymore. Whether folks dial 9-1-1, 9-9-9, 1-1-2, or 0-0-0 to access emergency services, the standards and technology transition issues surround public requests for assistance are rapidly globalizing. This means that technology, policy and operational breakthroughs that may occur in other areas of the globe are now potentially accessible for use by PSAPs in North America. It's a globalizing world out there and emergency communications is no exception. Come hear about standards and technology developments in global citizen to authority communications and how this might affect North American PSAPs in the near future.

JVC Kenwood/EF Johnson: Changing the Paradigm of LMR Systems: Technology that Makes Your System Safe & Simple
Monday, August 15 | 3:45 - 4:15 p.m.

Presenter: Christian Barker, VP Solutions Strategy

Before IP networks and cloud computing, LMR systems were complicated. Deployed with a lot of proprietary hardware and software, networks operated in a paradigm where functions were hierarchical, which created multiple points of failure and provided a finite level of redundancy. System managers had to worry about end-of-life proprietary components, and were stuck with their existing vendor when upgrades became necessary.

FirstNet: Readying Your State for Key Decisions
Tuesday, August 16 | 10:30 – 11:00 a.m.

Presenter: Dave Buchanan, FirstNet’s Director of State Consultation

Dave Buchanan, FirstNet’s Director of State Consultation, will provide an update of FirstNet’s state plan process.  Once the RFP is awarded later this year, FirstNet staff will work closely with the industry partner to develop unique targeted plans for deployment of the nationwide public safety broadband network for each state. This is your opportunity to learn more about this process, ask questions, and provide input. This presentation will feature a Q&A.
